Since 1956, the Nugget has contributed over a half-million dollars to over 600 high school and community college students. The $1,000 scholarships were first awarded to four students--two from Sparks and two from Carson City. Now, over 50 years later, 24 students from high schools throughout northern Nevada and two minority students receive the Nugget Scholarships.
